What is a yarn weft?
Weft is the term for the yarn which is shuttled back and forth across the warp to create a woven fabric. It can also be referred to as woof or fill. The weft is a thread or yarn of spun fiber. The original fiber was wool, flax or cotton. Nowadays man-made fibers are used in weaving.
Can you use yarn for warp thread?
Cotton and wool yarns are easy to work with and tension while warping, and you’ll find you want to use them time and time again when planning your projects. These yarns are also excellent for the beginner weaver.
What do you use for weft?
Weft materials are typically pliable and have a natural bend like yarn, but they can also be rigid and of various thicknesses. Any yarn in our shop can be used as weft (even roving fiber), but we’ve highlighted a few below into two categories; yarns for weaving constructed textiles and yarns for play.
Can you weave with yarn?
You can weave with knitting yarn and knit with weaving yarn. So yes, you can absolutely weave up your stash of knitting yarn! In fact, many knitters take up weaving as a stash-busting hobby, since weaving goes through yarn so much faster than knitting does.
Can you use acrylic yarn for warp?
The same rules apply to acrylics that apply to other yarns when evaluating for warp, it needs to be strong enough to hold up under the tension of the loom and beware of too much texture—sticky warps are a bummer.

What is yarn Group A?
DROPS Yarn is divided into yarn groups according to the thickness of the strand and the knitting tension. Yarn Group A is the thinnest yarn and Yarn Group F is the thickest yarn.
Can you use heat on yarn?
As with the stovetop, an electric hotplate works well for either the immersion or steaming method to set yarn dyes. However, a hotplate has the added advantage of portability.

How do I choose a weft yarn?
When selecting a weft yarn, there are fewer rules than when choosing a proper warp yarn. The weft fiber does not need to be as strong as the warp, or even as ‘structurally sound’, because it is under less tension when on the loom. Look around you — any linear material you see can be weft.
